Introduction to tube distortion

This page shows a data flow diagram for a tube modeling algorithm I developed some time ago to emulate microphones and amplifiers that use vacuum tubes. This is not a physical modeling algorithm; rather, it aims to model the device’s behavior in terms of compression, saturation, distortion, and sound shaping. There are several audio paths that are processed differently to achieve the desired behavior. My inspiration came from oscilloscope waveforms, audio comparisons, and my own research and measurements on the behavior of vacuum tubes as used in microphones and guitar amplifiers.

Conclusion and Summary

 DSPs can be used to emulate tube behavior by imitating the significant partsof the sound.
